Dear Leverage Partner, 
Trust you’re doing well. I’m Akshay Chaturvedi, Founder & CEO of 
Leverage.biz, more popularly known in the industry for Leverage Edu ~ our international student recruitment platform, that helps study abroad partners with housing, financial services and AI solutions. We have not had the chance to meet yet, but our organisations work very closely with each other. I have heard incredible things about the work you & the teams have been doing over the course of the last few years. 


Thought I would take the chance to share with you some reflections from my catch-up with Prime Minister Keir Starmer and his cabinet colleagues at the Labour Party Winter Gala Dinner in Scotland this past weekend. I dived right in to ask for some thoughts about our sector. The Prime Minister spoke about how the UK’s university ecosystem is its strongest pillar, and that his government’s big focus area is to further empower its universities and make them a much more central part of the nation’s economy. It was a casual-flowing conversation and of course I wanted to quench some of my own intrigue, so I raised a question with one of the cabinet leaders regarding the government’s view on international students. I was surprised at the very detailed and pretty emotive answer, where she reaffirmed that the UK will continue to welcome students from around the world, why wouldn’t they, while simultaneously taking British education to a global audience because that is one of the country’s biggest global soft power. We’ve seen some of that action already, so she and I consequently ended up
comparing what India and other markets could learn from Dubai. The cabinet member also stressed the government’s ambition (and I loved this part) to have UK international education compete head-on with that of other countries (while she didn’t specify where, I assumed she was talking about the US, and perhaps other emerging destinations in Western Europe). 

In fact, when I had met with the Secretary of State for Education, Bridget Phillipson, earlier this year, she echoed the same thoughts (
Link) and the government since then has continued to demonstrate their execution towards these initiatives throughout 2025.




These conversations deeply resonated with my own reflections, informed by nearly a decade of building Leverage to support hundreds of thousands of international students on their UK education journey. In fact, I strongly believe that action against illegal migration is necessary, because that clears out the noise for our ecosystem to create clean pathways for legal economic migrants who will substantially add to the UK economy, make the country on its way up across every economic parameter that it needs to, and/or take these learnings to their home countries and use that goodwill to brighten
up their own economics while making British international trade and geopolitics more deeply connected!
